LG-G-Watch-R-03

It hasn’t been that long since LG released its second wearable device this year called the G Watch R. The smartwatch touts a round design much like the Moto 360, and it has received a lot of praise for its display. Already rumors have started circulating about the device’s successor. Rumor has it that the LG G Watch R2 is going to have 4G capability.

Standalone cellular connectivity on a smartwatch won’t be nothing new. Samsung has already done that this year. The Gear S smartwatch is 3G capable which eliminates the need to hook it up to a smartphone in order to share a data connection.

Rumors out of South Korea suggest that the company has already started work on developing the LG G Watch R2. Word on the street is that this smartwatch will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, which takes place in March 2015, making it the first 4G capable smartwatch in the world.

Even though 4G capability on a smartwatch will be a huge leap for the wearable device market there are certain concerns that need to be addressed, like the battery life, which should be good enough to provide juice for data usage on 4G while lasting users throughout the day.

LG hasn’t commented on these rumors so it wouldn’t hurt to take them with a grain of salt for now.
