mobius2If you want something done right, you have got to do it yourself – or so that seems to be the popular mantra that is being quoted time and again. Africa is a continent that is full of adventure, but there are many people living there who are mired in poverty, which means that owning a car is out of the question. Mobius Motors hopes to change all of that by offering Africans with affordable, reliable, basic transportation, having come up with their Mobius II – where only 50 of these puppies have been manufactured so far.

Many vehicles imported to Africa are unsuitable for African road conditions, which more often than not result in frequent maintenance that would cost an arm and a leg over a long period of time. The Mobius II hopes to break free from this cycle, and it has been specially designed to handle Africa’s primitive road network. Apart from that, the local economy will be supported to a certain extent, and with a price tag of $10,500 prior to taxes, the rough and tough looking Mobius II looks set to be a best seller among the middle class in that part of the world. It does remind me of the older designs of the Land Rover Defender however, as you will not find the fierce looking headlights or sleek lines found in today’s modern SUVs and 4WDs.

Do bear in mind that the Mobius II does not come with any windows at all, with electronics being limited to a bare minimum. After all, with less stuff installed, the less amount of breaking down to happen – resulting in less money to spend for maintenance.
