moviepass

The streaming model for content, which requires a subscription, has proven to be quite popular. You just have to look at the millions of people who use services like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Rhapsody and more. Could a similar subscription-based service be offered to moviegoers? MoviePass is an app that wants to make this happen, and it might achieve that goal, now that AMC Theaters has teamed up with it.

AMC Theaters happens to be the second largest chain in North America with Regal Entertainment occupying the top spot. MoviePass has a rather simple model. Subscribers have to pay a flat fee which lets them view up to one movie per day for an entire month. Now that AMC Theaters is participating it is likely that this service could get some decent traction.

Starting January AMC Theaters in Denver and Boston will work with MoviePass. Subscription plans that will be offered have two tiers, which cost $45 and $35. $45 gets subscribers up to one movie per day in 3D, Imax, etc and $35 entitles them to one movie per day in 2D standard format.

The price does make sense when you consider the ticket prices in major cities but for MoviePass to make a difference in how moviegoers pay for their theatre entertainment it has to be available in more than just two cities. Lets see how the response is in Denver and Boston, only then will the future of MoviePass be more clear.
