NVIDIA was one of the very few OEMs to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop quickly for its device soon after the update was officially released by Google. SHIELD tablet users liked the fact that they were some of the first few people to be treated to an official Lollipop update. NVIDIA is keeping up its reputation of speedy updates and has already rolled out Android 5.0.1 to the SHIELD tablet, which might only be an incremental update from Google, but does bring some features that NVIDIA has baked into it.

The latest update for SHIELD tablet brings back the power menu that was taken away from newer devices powered by Lollipop. Just press and hold the power button and a menu pops up with options for Airplane mode, Power Off, Silent Mode and NVIDIA has also snuck in a Restart option.

SHIELD tablet owners will also find new options for the native Camera Awesome application after updating to Android 5.0.1, better localization, OpenGL 4.5 support as well as a host of performance and stability related tweaks. Expect improved switching between applications on this tablet.

If you happen to have this tablet check and see if the update has automatically landed. Alternatively you can also try to manually download the update through the Settings menu but if its live for your region, you probably wouldn’t have to go this far.
