bing-amber-alertBing happens to be Microsoft’s primary vehicle when it comes to search, and hence it is far from surprising to hear that Bing will also assist in the search for missing children. For folks who happen to live in the US, you would in all probability be familiar with AMBER alerts, where these are now part of Bing. AMBER is short for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, and it was birthed after the abduction of Amber Hagerman in 1996. AMBER alerts will be issued every time a child reportedly goes missing, and these alerts will be delivered through multiple channels such as SMS, radio, TV and others, Bing being part of the roll call now.

This is made possible with Microsoft working alongside the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and these alerts will appear whenever you perform a search for AMBER alerts, and happen to be within a geographic region that has an active search for a missing child. There is nothing more heart wrenching than not to know the location of your child, as well as the status of his or her life at the moment. Hopefully this is another positive development for Bing, which has seen it make predictions for next year already. [Press Release]
