Headphones and earphones for the most part are pretty standard in design. Headphones are a bit bigger as they come in over-ear and on-ear designs, but at the same time tend to offer better soundstage compared to earphones. Earphones on the other hand are smaller and can easily fit into your pocket.

So what about those who want a pair of headphones but at the same time are wearing a hat, helmet, headband, that won’t accommodate a pair of headphones? Well that’s where the CHIPS all-in-one headphones comes into play. These are a pair of headphones that have been designed for those who love outdoor activities, such as skiing or snowboarding, but find it frustrating to have to deal with regular headphones.

This was how the CHIPS headphones was born. According to its description, “We wanted our fingers to stay toasty warm, so we made over-sized buttons to control everything with gloved hands.  We also knew it needed to stand up to the elements: IPX4 and the ability to handle frigid temps (-20°C/-4°F).  With a built-in mic we could take calls and leave our phone in our pocket.”

The headphones are also connected flexible cord as opposed to a rigid band. This allows users to use them with a variety of head gear, but at the same time there is also an exoskeleton that will turn the earpieces into a regular pair of headphones. Pretty clever, isn’t it? The headphones will feature 40mm drivers, Bluetooth connectivity, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that promises 9-10 hours of playback.

At the moment the headphones are a Kickstarter project which has exceeded its funding, but if you’d still like to donate or learn more, you can head on over to its Kickstarter page or check the video above for the details.
