derby-pawWhile we have seen the power of the mind demonstrate the ability to control bionic parts such as hands and arms, things are not all that complex when it comes to our four legged friends, or furry kids as some people use for their term of endearment when it comes to our canine buddies. Derby happened to be born with deformations in both of his front legs, which in turn made movement extremely difficult (and painful to watch), not to mention being impossible to actually chase down a rabbit or ball. Thanks to the wonders of 3D printing of prosthetics, Derby the Husky mix can now run.

After being fitted out with not one, but two prosthetics, which happen to be custom-made using 3D sculpting software in order to fit the pup’s forearms, Derby is now about to move around and be more mobile and independent. In fact, what made Derby all the more endearing is the fact that he started to run around right after the legs were fitted. This particular project is also part of the non-profit Peace and Paws Rescue shelter, and they certainly are doing a good thing. This was made possible thanks to help from 3D Systems, where the final product did take a number of iterations to arrive at what you see above.
