fb-yearAs many of you guys have noticed on your Facebook News Feed that the social network is offering users a feature called “Year in Review”. For those who haven’t noticed or bothered, basically it sums up your entire year from various photos pulled throughout your year on Facebook, essentially creating a collage of 2014 specifically for you.

For the most part many people seem to enjoy these photos as it lets them remember the good times, but at the same time there are some who just aren’t too thrilled about the feature as it has brought up some bad and sad memories. One user, a web designer and author Eric Meyer posted on his blog at how inappropriate it was as Facebook had decided to use his deceased daughter’s photo surrounded by cheerful imagery to promote the feature on his page.

Safe to say this was rather embarrassing and awkward for Facebook who has since issued a public and private apology from Facebook. In a statement issued to the Washington Post, Facebook product manager Jonathan Gheller wrote, “[The app] was awesome for a lot of people, but clearly in this case we brought him grief rather than joy.”

Meyer himself had apologized to Facebook as he did not think his post would have brought this much attention and for “dropping the Internet on [their] head for Christmas.” In the meantime what do you guys make of the feature? Did it dredge up some unwanted memories for you too?
