Gaming on a console is a far more social experience these days compared to the early days before this thing known as the Internet became commonplace, and just about everyone was able to afford one. From networked titles to being unable to play at all because of the lack of an Internet connection, it seems to have become a necessity more than a luxury. Having said that, one would also now be able to communicate with friends online via certain games, and in order to move in alignment with that of instant messaging programs and the ilk, the Sony PS4 will soon receive a firmware update that will inform players that a friend has already come online.

You can check out from the video above that there will be a new notification that appears at the 10 second mark, where the player has been informed that a friend has just logged into PSN. No more making use of excuses such as “I’ve already logged in, didn’t you see me there earlier?” when you actually didn’t do so because you had other more urgent matters to attend to. It is nice to see how one of the PS4 community’s most requested features ever since the PS4 launched in 2013 has been realized, although it remains to be confirmed officially as to when the friend login notifications will be formally introduced to the PS4. Hopefully this is a case of sooner rather than later.
