girlscoutcookiesIt looks like the Girl Scouts of the USA intend to expand their horizons when it comes to the sales of their cookies – which is a long standing tradition in the outfit. This time around, they are about to keep up with the times (which is long overdue, actually) via its “Digital Cookie” program. This unique program will launch after years of the Girl Scouts prohibiting internet sales, so this is definitely a step into the unknown. Since minors will be involved, it is said that the entirety of the scouts’ activity online will need to be monitored by a parent or guardian, while younger children will have to make use of a pseudonym so as to offer protection for their anonymity.

Of course, prior to the launch today, there was a pilot program that ran with quite a resounding success earlier this year. While going online to sell cookies is good and well, it is widely hoped that participants will still continue to make use of traditional methods, since it carries the very special significance of boosting one’s business acumen when it comes to cookie sales. Girls can set up websites for automated sales, although these websites will be invite-only, so one will still have to do the hard work of networking in order to come up with a respectable client list.
