google carYou might recall that earlier this year, Google took the wraps off their self-driving car prototype which looked more like a buggy and looked like it was in its really early stages of planning. Well it seems that Google is done and have recently announced that they have completed their first fully functional prototype of their self-driving car.

As you can see in the image above, it does not look like Google has done much in terms of its design. However some obviously changes would be its sensor on the roof which appears to have been better integrated into the vehicle, where previously it looked like it was just strapped to the roof.

Google has also added real headlamps where the previous prototype looked like they were just markings to show where the headlamps would go. Google has also added features like typical car systems such as steering and braking to the vehicle. “We’ve now put all those systems together in this fully functional vehicle — our first complete prototype for fully autonomous driving.”

The company plans to spend the rest of the holidays testing out their latest prototype and are hoping to bring it to the streets of Northern California sometime in 2015, although ultimately they will need to clear some regulatory and legal hurdles if they are hoping to bring it to the masses one day.
