A couple of months ago we reported on what seemed like the typewriter of the next generation – the Hemingwrite. Well the good news is that if that is actually a device that you wouldn’t mind owning, you will be pleased to learn that the creators of the Hemingwrit have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds to make it a reality.

The goal is to release it in September of 2015 which is still some time away, but we guess if you’d like to help them out, you can pop on over to its Kickstarter page for the details. So far it seems that they have managed to raise close to $200,000 and with a goal of $250,000 and with 43 days to go at the time of writing, we’re pretty sure that they will be able to meet their goal.

That being said, what is the Hemingwrite? Well for those who might have missed our earlier report, the Hemingwrite is basically a typewriter with some modern twists. It features an e-paper display which makes writing in the sun a breeze, while writing at night will not be an issue either. It will also be accompanied by a mechanical keyboard to give off that “clack” when you type, and will also be powered by a battery that should last the user about 4 weeks.

The Hemingwrite will also come with a secondary display that will display the word count for those who are aiming for a particular set of words, and a timer to show how long they have been writing for. For those who are distracted easily, this is a great way to focus on your writing without distractions like Facebook or Twitter.

As it stands the Hemingwrite will be priced at $500 at retail, so if you were to pledge your support now, you will be able to get it about $130 cheaper. So, who’s planning on getting one for themselves?
