lenovo adapterWe have all heard of stories of smartphone batteries exploding or catching on fire before, so we can only imagine that the fire and explosion coming from a laptop might be even bigger and potentially more dangerous. This is why it has been reported that Lenovo has recently started to recall more than 500,000 AC power cords that have been distributed in the US.

The company has also recalled an additional 44,000 units in Canada. This stems from the fear that these cords could face overheating, which in turn could start burning or catch on fire. The cords were manufactured between February 2011 to December 2011 and were distributed with the company’s B, G, S, U, V, and Z series of IdeaPad laptops, along with B, G, and V series of non-IdeaPad laptops.

For those who own any of these AC power cords, it has been suggested that you should stop using them immediately and contact Lenovo for a replacement. Thankfully there has not been any incidents over in the US, but there have been as many as 15 reports outside of the US in which the cords have overheated, sparked, melted, and burned.

No injuries have resulted from these incidents either, thankfully, but at the same time we can only imagine that it must have been a pretty scary situation.
