Throughout this entire year we had been hearing rumors that LG is going to introduce a smartphone which will be powered by its own NUCLUN octacore processor. That smartphone was finally unveiled back in October. The LG G3 Screen is powered by the company’s own processor and on the face of it, the device looks quite like the LG G3. A report out of Korea claims that sales of this device have been hit hard because the NUCLUN processor is faulty.
Citing anonymous industry sources the report claims that LG’s own processor is “one generation” behind entry-level processors from Chinese chipmakers like MediaTek and Huawei. The report singles out a problem with the chipset which LG developed over two years to the tune of $179 million.
Apparently the processor downclocks its clock speed fairly aggressively when operating temperatures rise. This has a direct affect on the performance and these days nobody likes a sluggish phone, which is why it won’t surprise anyone if this is really the reason why sales have been hit hard.
LG hasn’t officially confirmed what has been claimed in this report so there’s always the possibility that things might not be what they’re being made out to be. It is likely that a problem with the firmware might be causing performance issues and there might not be anything wrong with the company’s own chipset, but its too soon to say that for sure right now.
