nintendo-wii-u-review-25Earlier this year, Nintendo and Philips got into a little legal dispute over alleged patent infringement. Back then Philips claimed that Nintendo had infringed upon their patents with the Wii U gaming console and were seeking an injunction against the company’s products from being sold.

Well it seems that about half a year later, both companies have finally come to an agreement and have agreed to settle, ultimately ending the lawsuit in which it appeared that Philips was gaining the upper hand, especially in the UK where the judge ruled in Philips’ favor. In a statement released by Nintendo, the company has confirmed that an agreement has since been reached.

According to Martina Franke, the European General Counsel of Nintendo of Europe, “We are pleased to have reached agreement with Philips, as it demonstrates that both companies recognise the importance of intellectual property rights. Nintendo has a substantial IP portfolio and a long history of developing innovative products while respecting valid intellectual property rights of others.”

Unsurprisingly the financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but either way it is good news for both companies as legal battles regarding lawsuits have been known to be rather ugly and long, drawn out affairs.
