Nokia may have sold its devices and services division to Microsoft but its not completely out of the game just yet. Not so long ago the company unveiled a new Android tablet that it has been working on, called the Nokia N1, and now the launch date of this tablet has finally been confirmed. We reported on a rumored launch date earlier this week and that has turned out to be true.

As previously reported, the Nokia N1 will indeed be launched on January 7th, 2015. Nokia is kicking things off in China which is the first market in its region where this tablet will be made available. The confirmation has come from the company’s Weibo page that the N1 tablet will be available in the People’s Republic from January 7th.

The Android powered Nokia N1 has a 7.9-inch Gorilla Glass 3 display with a 2,048×1,536 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 64-bit quadcore processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. Expansion via microSD is not supported.

There is an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 5 megapixel one on the front. A 5,300mAh battery provides the juice to the N1 which comes with Android 5.0 straight out of the box.

For its customers in China Nokia has started a contest through which people can get 800 tickets and six VIP passes for the tablet’s media event taking place on January 7th. 24 lucky fans will also take home a N1 tablet free of charge.
