puzzlephoneCould modular smartphones be the way of the future? Well we know that Google is working on Project Ara and there is also the Vsenn modular smartphone that was announced not too long ago, but that’s not all because over in Finland, Circular Devices has a modular smartphone of their own called the Puzzlephone.

The Puzzlephone appears on the surface to be a much more simpler answer to Project Ara as it basically consists of three different areas in which users can swap out. The main portion of the phone will house the display, speakers, and the basic structure. That is called the “Spine”. There is also the “Heart” which houses the battery and secondary electronics, followed by the “Brain” which holds the processor and camera module.

So instead of being able to swap out every component, users will be able to choose between batches of components instead. Granted this means it is less customizable, but we suppose this also makes things a lot simpler for users as it makes the choice of components more basic. So with Project Ara planned for 2015, when can we expect to see the Puzzlephone?

Well its creators are also planning a 2015 release in the second half of the year, but this is assuming that they are able to secure the necessary funding to make it a reality. So far we have to admit that we like what we see, but what do you guys think? Is the Puzzlephone a device you would consider?
