roboswarmRobots with highly sophisticated AI might spell the end of humanity as we know it, according to the fears expressed by Stephen Hawking, but until that fateful day happens (if ever), we will continue to be amazed as well as amused with the idea of swarming robots. Self-organizing robot swarms are not new, but if you so happen to be in New York City at the moment and are interested in having a robot swarm interact with you, why not head on to MoMath, the National Museum of Mathematics?

The spanking new Robot Swarm exhibit was opened just this week, where the multi-robot exhibit intends to be appealing to visitors, and at the same time, being able to withstand to the rigors of having visitors walk all over them. The exhibit does resemble that of a boxing ring at first glance, where the robots themselves will glide around in a transparent arena right below. The robot swarm will feature movement underneath the feet of visitors, and when they run out of juice, they will make their way to specially located recharging stations under the floor.

There is nothing quite like a concrete example to get things up and running, don’t you think so?
