An extensive update has been released today for the Shazam Windows Phone app. It comes with a new user interface designed specifically for Windows 8.1. Other features introduced in this update include better music recognition, improved tagging functionality, new track pages and support for Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant, Cortana.

Since Shazam is all about music discovery the improved core feature will definitely be appreciated. The app now starts up quicker than ever before so users can start “Shazaming” faster and expect results to be more accurate than before. Shazam promises that their app on the Windows Phone platform will now deliver “world-class performance” like its apps do on other leading platforms like iOS and Android.

Support for Cortana makes it even easier to search for a song you’ve just heard within seconds. Just tell Cortana to “Shazam this” and it’ll work its magic to bring up relevant results. The app will also display the most recent discovery on the home screen itself, taking advantage of the functionality provided by Live Tiles on Windows Phone.

New Track pages will now feature music videos, lyrics and links to Xbox Music from where users can purchase the tracks they’ve discovered. Shazam says that this is the first of many planned upgrades for Windows Phone, the latest app is now live and available for download from the Windows Store.
