It has been two decades since Sony released the PlayStation One. The company’s gaming platform has come a long way since then, but there’s no doubt in the fact that it was one of the most commercially successful gaming consoles that Sony has ever created. To pay tribute to this console Sony today announced the limited edition PlayStation 4 which has a similar color scheme as the PSone. For those who already have a PS4 unit, Sony has officially released a PSone theme.
Only recently a major software update was pushed out for the PlayStation 4 which brought the ability to download and install custom themes on this console. So now PS4 owners will have no problems in getting their hands on this theme if they’re feeling nostalgic about the PSone days.
The theme has been pushed out today through the firmware update that was released for the PlayStation 4. The theme reproduces the startup music from PSone, a small gesture that should bring back a lot of memories. This free theme also adds a grey background to the console, apart from replicating the startup music from the old console.
Currently the theme is only available in the EU store, but it shouldn’t take long before it goes live in the U.S. store as well. The theme will also be available for PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita.
