super smash bros 8 playerWhenever a developer releases a new game, chances are that over the next few weeks, months, and maybe even years, they will be releasing patches and updates to the game which will address bugs, introduce new features, or balance out character classes especially in the face of some classes being considered overpowered.

Heck, Blizzard spent years pushing out patches and updates to older titles like Diablo 2, but as far as Nintendo’s latest Super Smash Bros. is concerned, it seems that the company thinks the game is already pretty perfect the way it is. According to the game’s director Masahiro Sakurai, it seems that the latest patch issued to the game was also its last patch.

Speaking to Famitsu in an interview, Sakurai was quoted as saying, “We don’t have any such plans [to further balance the game], but at the very least we will be working on a few things connected to the online play experience, bit by bit. If we were to do something like tweak characters’ customized special moves, then there’d be no end to it. But with that said, if there are any glaring issues, we may address them.”

Is this a good/bad thing? Well we guess if you enjoy the game the way it is then this shouldn’t really be an issue. However if you were hoping for tweaks, updates, and balances in some characters that you think are “unfair”, then you’d be out of luck. However previous gamers have taken to using fan mods to “balance” the game themselves, so worst comes to worst the community will rally together to come up with a solution of their own.
