yahoo-aviateYahoo Aviate, the Android launcher, was launched earlier this year in June, the mobile homescreen application Yahoo which was acquired at the beginning of 2014, has picked up an update which will allow Android smartphone owners to look for contacts as well as apps that are installed on their device, as well as perform a search across the Internet, doing all of that straight from a solitary interface. The web search happens to be powered by Yahoo, which means that Aviate users will depend on Yahoo’s results without the need to open up a web browser in the first place.

It must be noted that Yahoo is not the default search engine where Google’s Android-powered devices are concerned – and that is a no-brainer, of course. Hence, to win a search deal like the one Yahoo and Mozilla just agreed upon, is extremely important for the company. To include “search” as a feature in the updated Aviate app paves the way for Yahoo to integrate its very own services even more deeply than ever before on mobile devices, all without having to depend on the operating system in question, or browser defaults.
