noke-appWhen we think of padlocks, we think of keys, physical keys at least, but last year FUZ Designs decided to turn that notion on its head by introduce the world’s first Bluetooth-enabled padlock. This is a padlock that can be unlocked using your phone and a Bluetooth connection and the good news is that if you like the idea, you can now pre-order the Noke for yourself.

The company has recently announced that they will begin taking pre-orders for the Noke Bluetooth padlock and they are expecting it to begin shipping in April. However our previous report had suggested a delivery date in February 2015, but perhaps that February shipping date is only applicable to its Kickstarter backers, and everyone else can expect their order in April.

For those who might have missed our earlier announcement, the Noke is a Bluetooth padlock that unlocks just by you placing your phone near the lock itself, kind of like NFC. For those who put their phones in their bags, you won’t even need to take your phone out of the bag to unlock/lock the Noke.

Alternatively should your phone run out of battery, there is a Quick Click feature that allows you to manually unlock the Noke through a series of taps on the padlock’s shank. The battery on the Noke is said to last about a year and will be priced at $59.99 and will be available in black or gray.
