There is nothing quite like gaining inspiration from nature – and the same applies to this particular robot, in which you will be able to realize from the video above that its movement have been inspired by none other than the humble cuttlefish. Known as the ‘cuttlefish robot’, it is capable of diving through an underwater forest, and making its way with plenty of grace and quiet.

This robot will feature a quartet of fins, and it moves in the same manner as that of cuttlefish when underwater. The swimming action of the cuttlefish is efficient and agile – which means the robot too, will be able to gain such qualities when it applies similar design cues. However, do not expect the cuttlefish robot to pick up the powers of disguise as that will most probably be so far down the “future features” list, if it is even there in the first place.

The cuttlefish robot is the brainchild of Pascal Buholzer and fellow students from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich. While underwater plants will in all probability, end up in the spinning blades of a normal robot, this robot managed to go through a forest of seagrass without any entanglement – thanks to its special design.
