station-droneIt might be winter for some, but over at the Princess Elisabeth scientific station, which is located right on the Utsteinen Ridge in Antarctica, it happens to be summer. Still, even though it might be summer, it is no cakewalk to survive in that particular environment, and I am quite sure that those who are averse to cold weather would not want to hang around for too long in order to check out just how winter conditions are like in that part of the world. Thankfully, with the advent of drone technology, we are now able to get some rather nifty looks at this zero emission scientific station from afar – as it relies on both wind and solar power for all of its energy needs.

In addition, it makes use of great design alongside construction techniques such as generous layers of insulation to boot, in order to take passive advantage from solar energy. In addition the clever implementation of smart grid concepts locally on the station enables it to be as energy efficient as possible, as one optimizes between their various energy options. The overhead flight of the drone alongside a video camera captures a really beautiful view to say the least.
