sony-memorial-auctionThe free market usually works this way – if there is enough demand for a particular device or item, and the supply is far from satisfactory, then expect the price to go up. Even more so if one particular item happens to be a limited edition model, or saw a limited production run, then the rarity of it would certainly fetch a higher than normal price on the market. Well, the 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 certainly did cause some ripples in the world of gaming news, through various auction bids, but here we are with a potentially record breaking auction bid for hardware in the same series – the very first 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 is now up for auction. May the highest bid win!

First of all, here is a little bit of background information. There are only 12,300 of the 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 models manufactured, and all of them are numbered. Hence, if you were to get the very first one made, it would definitely be something, as there is value in being first. Needless to say, this is the most collectable PlayStation 4 among the rest of the models out there, where it boasts of the 00001/12300 plate that I am quite sure would be able to perform the magic trick of turning the eyes of others green when they gaze upon it.

However, if you want to have a remote chance of picking it up, you would need to stay in Japan or know someone with a Japanese address. Every single yen from the total auction price will go to Save The Children Japan. At this point in time, the bid stands at more than 16.7 million yen – that is roughly $142,000 after conversion.
