Last week BlackBerry formally launched the limited edition gold BlackBerry Passport. Only 50 units of this limited edition device were sold worldwide so its safe to say that they were all picked up soon after they became available for purchase. As is the case with such devices many have now turned to eBay to sell their gold BlackBerry Passports for a lot more than they originally paid for it.

The gold BlackBerry Passport is exactly the same as the normal variant of this smartphone save for the fact that it has gold trim and frets. Since its a limited edition device each unit has a number out of 50 engraved on the metal trim to confirm its exclusivity. BlackBerry sold these units for $999 a pop.

However it didn’t take long for units to appear on eBay. This was to be expected anyway. Take a look at this listing, where a selling is moving their 45/50 gold BlackBerry Passport with a starting bid of $4,000. So far no bids have been made on this device which goes to show people aren’t really willing to pay this much money.

Those who couldn’t purchase one directly from BlackBerry at the official price have plenty of opportunities to purchase this device through eBay, though they will need to pay an exorbitant amount of money just to get their hands on one.
