google-domains-main

In June last year Google Domains was announced. It is a new service by Google which aims to steal business away from domain registrars, and to make things competitive, it will offer whois protection for free, most registrars charge for this service. Initially this service was launched in beta and required an invite code to get in. Not anymore. Google Domains is now open to all users residing in the United States.

This new service fills a gap that has existed in Google’s product lineup for a long time. It already runs Blogger, a service that lets people create their own blogs for free, and if they want a proper domain they have to go to websites like GoDaddy and Network Solutions to purchase it.

Apart from registering domains Google is also going to provide free email forwarding to Gmail inbox, free domain forwarding as well as support for up to 100 sub-domains. Phone support will be offered as well.

Google Domains is now linked with Blogger so customers can instantly connect a domain that they have just purchased to a blog on Blogger if they want. Even though the service is still in beta it can now be accessed by anyone in the U.S. International expansion is on the cards but Google isn’t saying as yet when that will happen.
