iPhone-6-review-2

Before Apple formally announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus many analysts had said that the expected increase in the display size of these new iPhones would improve sales of Apple’s smartphones. The market had already moved on to significantly larger displays and people were looking at Apple to respond. That it did, with the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. The latest report from Counterpoint Research shows that this shift provided a boost for iPhone sales particularly in Asian markets.

According to the report iPhone sales in South Korea, China and Japan are now the highest they have ever been, which means that Apple is presenting a tough challenge to the manufacturers based in that region.

Samsung’s home base of South Korea saw Apple take 33 percent of the market in November, prior to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus its position in the market stood at 15 percent. Its higher than South Korea’s LG which is at 14 percent.

Its a similar story in Japan. In May 2014 Apple’s share of the smartphone market was in the high teens but come November it jumped to 51 percent. Sony, the country’s home side, saw its market share fall from 30 percent in July 2014 to just 17 percent in November.

China is one of the most hotly contested markets with local companies like Xiaomi being in a dominating position. Apple made progress there as well, seeing a year-over-year increase of 45 percent, accounting for 12 percent of all smartphone sales in China and taking third place behind XIaomi and Lenovo respectively.

Clearly this worked out great for Apple.
