redline-wifiThere are just a handful of cities that dot the U.S. which will offer wireless service throughout their subway systems, and sadly, Los Angeles is not one of them. For instance, if you were to make your way to Wilshire Boulevard, you would remain cut off from the rest of the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram world until you appear back above ground. However, all of that is about to change, as the city and InSite Wireless have begun to deploy not only cellular service but WiFi networks at subway stations – and the Red Line would be the first among the lot to receive this “honor.”

Of course, the initial launch will be done without much fanfare, where there will only be a quartet of stations which will receive WiFi connectivity by May, as well as cellular service arriving later this August. Assuming all goes well in the initial rollout, there are bigger plans coming your way in the next two years, where the Purple Line and more stops along the Red Line would be up and running by June 2016, while the Gold Line railway’s tunnels ought to gain connectivity two Marches from now. Isn’t it a wonderful piece of news if you happen to ride on those lines?
