lg ice cream smartAbout a week ago we reported that LG appeared to be working on a flip phone running Android called the LG Ice Cream Smart. Now we’re not sure in this day and age how popular the flip phone is, but we guess in some markets there is still a demand for such devices and yes, it looks like LG has made the device official.

We should start off by saying that the LG Ice Cream Smart is not the most beautiful Android smartphone we’ve seen, but given that it will retail for $270, it is somewhat affordable, although to be fair you could get a phone with a larger display for less. The Ice Cream Smart will combine a touchscreen display and a numeric keypad.

The keypad also means that QWERTY typing is out of the question and users will have to rely on T9 texting which was the standard back in the day. If you miss T9 typing methods then we guess this should do the trick. The keypad will also provide users with shortcuts to launch apps such as KakaoTalk, camera, and email.

No word on the rest of the phone’s specs or if LG plans on bringing it stateside, but given that the press release was in South Korea, it seems unlikely that we would see it arrive in the US, although you could try your luck via grey market imports if you absolutely have to have it.
