nintendo-exits-brazilBrazil, the land of samba and the carnival, not to mention buffets that can satisfy the carnivore in us, looks set to be hit by a major blow where the world of video games is concerned. Nintendo looks set to pull out from the South American country’s video game market entirely. Apparently, Nintendo will stop selling its wares in Brazil, citing the country’s high tariffs and import fees on electronics and video games. While Brazil has its fair share of Nintendo fans, they are not enough to help keep the Japanese company profitable. However, it is not all doom and gloom, since Nintendo will not be pulling out from South America completely, just Brazil, so I guess folks living there who might want to get in on some Mario action will need to hop to a nearby neighbor and pick up a Nintendo console and/or title.

Consoles are super expensive in Brazil – the PS4 itself is not exempt from this phenomenon as it costs approximately $4,000 Brazilian Real (which is close to $1,500 USD), while the Xbox One is going for R$2,200 ($800 USD thereabouts), and all of these can be attributed to Brazil’s notoriously high import fees and taxes. Microsoft has managed to keep the costs down somewhat, thanks to a local manufacturing plant in Brazil itself, but Nintendo has so far refused to erect one in Brazil.
