facebook hoaxWe’re not sure how many of you guys have noticed, but there are some who have recently started posting a bunch of legalese on their Facebook status updates, basically claiming that by posting that status, they are exempting themselves from Facebook’s new guidelines. If you have come across that and you’re wondering how true it is, it isn’t and you can relax.

According to reports, this is actually a hoax which some people have been falling for. In fact this is a pretty old hoax and was first discovered as far back in 2012. Facebook themselves have acknowledged that the post was a hoax back in 2012 where they wrote, “There is a rumor circulating that Facebook is making a change related to ownership of users’ information or the content they post to the site. This is false. Anyone who uses Facebook owns and controls the content and information they post, as stated in our terms.”

Sure, you might argue that that was 2012, but couldn’t have Facebook changed their terms and guidelines in 2015? Yup, they might have, but they haven’t. Facebook’s current terms of service reads, “You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings.”

So if you do come across a Facebook status update like that, fret not because it isn’t real, and perhaps you’ll want to tell your friend to take it down lest it starts spreading even more.
