OnePlus emerged on the scene in December 2013 and within a few months launched its first smartphone known as OnePlus One. It was hard to purchase one because the company was trying different ways of managing inventory and only allowed invite-holders to purchase one. Towards the end of last year we saw the company open up its order process considerably. Now that time is ripe for a second generation smartphone there are many questions about how OnePlus is going to approach this. The company’s Carl Pei provided some crucial answers at CES 2015.

Speaking to the folks at Android Headlines, Pei said that ‘tablets won’t be our thing,” putting to rest recent rumors that a tablet is coming soon from OnePlus. Pei says that haven’t seen good implementations with the tablet and that “no one’s really making money” on these devices. For now OnePlus will solely focus on smartphones.

As far as the OnePlus Two is concerned Pei said that the final product “will surprise people.” The company has toyed with different screen sizes and have even changed their expected release window multiple times. They are now looking at a Q2 or Q3 2015 launch of the OnePlus Two.

Many have said that the company needs to do away with its invite system for purchases. Pei wouldn’t rule the system out for OnePlus Two but hopefully they’ll have enough inventory on hand to cater to all orders, otherwise customers may have to put up with ill-conceived marketing campaigns just to be able to buy one.
