If you’re in the market for a portable flash unit to help enhance your photos taken by your phone, there are plenty of options available in the market at the moment. One of these options is a device called the PowerLite. It is currently a Kickstarter project seeking funding and what makes it interesting is not only does it act as an external flash, but it can also recharge your phone at the same time.

According to its creator, the PowerLite will feature 14 LEDs that will be able to provide 630 Lumens. The LED’s brightness can be controlled directly from your smartphone via an accompanying app, so photographers will be able to choose how brightly lit they want their subject to be, much like they would with a proper flash and camera setup.

As for the rechargeable battery, the PowerLite will come equipped with a 1,600mAh battery under the hood. The battery will be providing juice to the flash and for those emergencies, juice for your phone as well. However given its 1,600mAh size, don’t expect too much from it, but like we said it should come in handy for emergencies.

There are two models available at the moment – one version created for iOS devices thanks to its Lighting cable, and the other is a micro USB model for Android devices. At the moment they have managed to raise a little over $10,000 of their $60,000 goal, so if you like the idea and want to give them a hand, head on over to their Kickstarter page for the details.
