Microsoft today released a new update of Skype for iPhone. Skype 5.9 for iPhone brings several improvements for the user interface, particularly to the dial pad and new chat picker, these improvements are meant to make it easier for users to start chats and calls quickly. Typing a phone number in the dial pad will now suggest contacts that have matching phone numbers, enabling users to find who they want to call faster.

The updated chat picker will make starting conversations easier. Tapping the message icon on the bottom navigation bar brings up the chat picker from where a conversation can be started by tapping the phone or video icon on top of a contact.

Apart from detailing the update Microsoft also announced a new testing program that Skype for iPhone users can take part in. The company is looking for interested users who would like access to pre-release version of Skype to provide Microsoft with feedback on improvements and changes before they are sent out for everyone.

More information about the Skype for iPhone testing program are available here. Those who want to apply should be 18 years or over, have a valid email address and Skype or Microsoft account to be eligible. Only limited places are available so don’t waist any time in applying if you’re interested in this.
