Now this is rather ironic – some of the greatest pieces of art in the history of mankind cannot be viewed in a public gallery, simply because it has been stolen – and have not yet been recovered. Hence, how is the rest of the world supposed to view those pieces of artwork other than through photos that were taken in the past? Fret not, there is always technology to come to the rescue. Ziv Schneider, a student in NYU’s ITP program, will be showing them off in an upcoming museum exhibition.
Of course, this museum exhibition will not be hosted in the real world, but rather, it is only possible to do so in virtual reality. This virtual museum has been specially designed in order to resemble that of an actual one, where the stolen artwork will hang on spare white walls, which will have ornate frames surrounding them. Not only that, the presence of an audio guide would walk one through these halls, and Schneider feels that the recreation of a traditional museum environment is the least he could do to restore some semblance of dignity to these stolen works, which are now nothing but thumbnail images on FBI and Interpol websites.
Does this mean we will soon be able to spend time in a virtual reality zoo that depicts all of the extinct creatures?
