xiaomi logoCome 15th January, we expect that Xiaomi will be taking the wraps off a brand new smartphone, but is that all the company has planned for us? Well according to recent Chinese certifications, it seems that Xiaomi has more than just smartphones planned for their event. In fact if the speculation is to be believed, Xiaomi could be planning their own Chromecast-like device.

The device has been dubbed the Mi Box and based on its certification, it sounds a lot like the Chromecast. The device will plug into your television and it will allow users to mirror the content from their smartphones over onto their TV. This isn’t the first time we have heard such rumors, although previous rumors did suggest a device more like the Roku or Apple TV, but we guess this report seems to suggest otherwise.

Unfortunately not much else is known about the upcoming Mi Box or how it will distinguish itself from other streaming devices like the Chromecast, Roku Stick, or the Fire TV Stick. Xiaomi has typically set itself apart by offering similar products at much cheaper prices, but given that all three devices are relatively inexpensive, it is possible that Xiaomi could find themselves amongst stiff competition.

In any case we will learn more at Xiaomi’s 15th of January event, so if you’d like to see what Xiaomi has to offer, be sure to check back with us then for the details.
