vessel-imacThere have been many companies who have created video websites that claim to be the next YouTube, although safe to say that at the end of the day, YouTube is still the default website that people turn to for their online video needs. However Hulu’s former CEO Jason Kilar has recently opened up the invites to his YouTuber competitor, Vessel.

Prior to this, Vessel was only limited to content creators, but presumably as part of the company’s next phase in rolling the service out, they have decided to invite users over to test out their services. “Today, we will invite users to try Vessel on iOS devices (iPhones and iPads) and on the web (all laptop and desktop computers). Soon, we’ll also release Vessel for Android devices.”

The service will be a first-come, first-served basis so if you’re curious about Vessel, users can go ahead to their website and leave their email address for an invite to the service. The invite will be good for a month and will be free of charge, however Vessel notes that when the service goes live for real, users will be charged $2.99 if they wish to be able to continue accessing videos.

We can’t be sure how good Vessel will be compared to other video websites, but given Kilar’s experience as the former CEO of Hulu who also provides video content, perhaps it might have what it takes to take on YouTube.
