console-osEver wished that you had the ability to enjoy Android apps while you are using a PC instead of an Android-powered smartphone or tablet? Well, it does not take too much effort in order to enjoy just that, where one can always install Android-x86, which is a port of Google’s mobile operating system for computers that run on Intel or AMD processors, or perhaps take their chances with an Android emulator including the likes of Bluestacks or Genymotion. Right now, Console OS opens up another option, being an operating system that is based on Android 4.4 KitKat, although its “secret ingredients” would be having been optimized to run on computers that are powered by more recent Intel Core or Atom processors.

Android can be installed as a standalone operating system, or one can always configure it as a dual-boot option so that it can run alongside Windows. The developers of Console OS happened to have raised money for this particular project in a crowdfunding campaign in 2014, which is why Console OS Developer Release 1 is readily available for just about anyone to give the download a go – for free, too!

One installs Console OS using a USB flash drive, although do take into consideration that your machine needs a 64-bit UEFI with Secure Boot disabled.
