The Dungeons & Dragons franchise has spawned many games, both traditional in its tabletop, roll the dice, have a dungeon master lead you kind of way, as well as the video game version played on the computer, such as upcoming Sword Coast Legends and to a certain extent, the Baldur’s Gate franchise is also based on the Dungeons & Dragons system.

That being said, developers n-Space and Digital Extremes have revealed an interesting feature of their upcoming game Sword Coast Legends that should make hardcore and traditional D&D players interested – the ability to play as a dungeon master. Speaking to IGN, n-Space’s president Dan Tudge said described the mode in detail.

“Dungeon master mode is going to allow players to quickly jump in and play as a real-time DM in a way that has never really been fully realized in a video game. DMs are able to adjust encounters, place, promote, manage and even control monsters, set traps, reward and punish party members — all in real time.”

It’s definitely an interesting concept and if you grew up playing tabletop games or gathered with friends for a sleepover roleplaying as warriors, wizards, rogues, and so on in a D&D setting, then perhaps the upcoming Sword Coast Legends could be worth checking out.
