The news about the upcoming major patch release was revealed by Bungie itself through its official Twitter account. Apart from confirming that Update 1.1.1 is going to roll out later this week the developer also reminded us to look out for the scheduled downtime today.

Scheduled downtime starts today at approximately 10 am PST and is expected to run through 12 pm PST, it will apply to both Destiny the game and Bungie.net.

Bungie has said that there will be no effects on the actual gameplay once the servers are brought back online following maintenance.

Update 1.1.1 is going to bring some major changes for Destiny, including but not limited to compulsory matchmaking for Heroic Strike, an event that Destiny players can take part in every week.

So don’t be alarmed today by Destiny’s downtime, it’s a routine maintenance exercise by Bungie, which will also get everything ready for Update 1.1.1 due to arrive over the next couple of days.
