Sony has often been requested to allow PlayStation Network sub-accounts to be upgraded to master accounts and it has finally come through. PlayStation Network users now have the ability to do this, though only through a PC initially, but Sony has promised that users will be able to do this through a PlayStation 4 in the near future.
For those who are unaware the PlayStation Network sub-accounts allow gamers under the age of 18 to get access to PSN while their parents and guardians have control over their online experience.
Moreover certain PlayStation Network features can be limited for sub-accounts such as monthly spending limits, messages and gameplay broadcasts.
This announcement was made by Sony Network Entertainment head Eric Lempel in a post on the official PlayStation blog.
Sub-account holders on PlayStation Network will only be able to upgrade to a master account once they turn 18. Once the account has been upgraded then all of the PSN features are available, including the PlayStation Store, with no restrictions whatsoever on any feature.
Profiles will be carried over when an account is upgraded as well as items like friends lists and trophies.
