In just under a week Samsung is going to unveil its new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, and once they arrive little attention will be paid to the Galaxy S5. Last year’s flagship reportedly didn’t perform as well as Samsung would have hoped which is why the company needs both new devices to pick up the slack. That said, Samsung will like to sell more units of its 2014 flagship before the Galaxy S6 is released, which is probably why it reminded everyone last night that the Galaxy S5 is “irresistible.”

Many of you might be aware that it was Hollywood’s biggest night yesterday. The 87th Academy Awards were aired last night and during the transmission Samsung aired a commercial on ABC to highlight certain qualities of the Galaxy S5.

The commercial, which is barely a minute long, reminds us that the Galaxy S5 is dust resistant and water resistant. It is IP67 certified and can stand reasonable well against the elements. Samsung also reminded everybody that the Galaxy S5 is “irresistible,” but your point of view on this claim might depend upon whether or not you actually like this device.

Whenever a major new smartphone release is around the corner customers tend to hold off on purchasing a new unit because they want to get the new device.

Those who are holding out for the Galaxy S6 are unlikely to spend money on last year’s flagship but Samsung is going to make an effort nonetheless to ensure it can sell as many Galaxy S5 units as it can before the new devices arrive.
