galaxy-note-4-review-06While brands like Apple and Samsung are known all over the world, there are some markets in which they do really well in, and there are some markets which they don’t perform as well, either due to local brand loyalty, pricing, lifestyle choices, trends, and etc., kind of like how flip phones are still popular in Japan but not so much in other parts of the world.

That being said a new rumor has surfaced in which it seems to suggest that Samsung could be thinking of bowing out of the Japanese smartphone market. While Samsung is doing well for itself in other parts of the world, the company only has a tiny 4% of the Japanese smartphone market, making it the country’s sixth smartphone OEM. The reason for bowing out is because Samsung is actually losing money by staying in the market.

This is compared to two years ago where Samsung was sitting at a pretty comfortable 17% but unfortunately it seems that Apple’s dominance has pushed Samsung further down the ranks. In fact back in 2014 towards the end of the year, there were reports that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus was outselling the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 to a ratio of 5-to-1, very bad odds indeed.

Samsung has yet to confirm the rumor so take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Could Samsung really be thinking about bowing out of the Japanese market, or do you think that they will/should hold on in hopes that their newer devices will be able to recapture some of their lost market share?
