sprint logoAs some of you have heard by now, RadioShack has filed for bankruptcy and last we heard, Sprint was rumored to be interested in picking up some of RadioShack’s retail locations. As it turns out the rumor was true, or at least partially. Sprint has recently announced that they will be taking up some retail space in about 1,750 of RadioShack’s stores.

To be more specific, Sprint will be utilizing a third of these stores’ spaces and turn them into mini-retail locations for their carrier services and whatnot. At the moment Sprint has about 1,100 company-owned stores so by taking up this deal with RadioShack, Sprint would undoubtedly be expanding their presence by a huge margin.

According to Sprint, “Under the terms of the new agreement, Sprint would effectively operate a store within a RadioShack store, occupying approximately one third of the retail space of each location. Sprint employees will sell mobile devices and plans on all Sprint brands including Boost and Virgin Mobile. The stores will be co-branded with Sprint being the primary brand on storefronts and in marketing materials.”

A rumor from a couple of days ago also stated that Amazon was also interested in picking up some of RadioShack’s retail locations in which Amazon could then put on display some of their products and offerings.
