T-Mobile used to be the fourth largest carrier in the country. It used to be a long way from the user base that Sprint enjoyed in third place. Over the last couple of years Magenta has seriously improved its game and has taken a few bold steps that brought about a surge in its user base. The company didn’t mention this feat in its Q4 earnings report, which is impressive to say the least, but during a live earnings call CEO John Legere said that Magenta is now bigger than Sprint, which will make it the third largest mobile carrier in the country.

If this is true then Legere would simply be delivering on a promise that he made last year. He had said that T-Mobile will be able to overtake Sprint by the end of 2014.

When 2015 started T-Mobile didn’t exactly celebrate leaving Sprint behind which led many to believe that Magenta still had some way to go before it could claim victory over its nearest rival but Legere is now adamant that this has happened.

This trading of places does little for consumers, its more of an achievement for the carrier, but if T-Mobile really has overtaken Sprint then it will surely work even harded to ensure that it isn’t dropped back to fourth place once again.

Sprint has not commented on these claims so far.
