android_lollipop_distro_marchLast month according to the official Android stats released by Google, Android 5.0 Lollipop was sitting at a distribution of around 1.6%. It is a bit low considering that it has been several months since the update was released, but it looks like it has been slowly gaining momentum. According to the latest figures, it has been revealed that Android 5.0 is now at 3.3%, just about doubling its distribution from a month ago.

Interestingly enough you would think that as Android 5.0’s distribution increased that other versions of Android would decrease. Unfortunately that does not appear to be true because according to the figures, Android 4.4 KitKat actually saw a slight increase to 40.9%, up from last month where it was sitting at 39.7%.

However Android 4.4 KitKat is the only version of Android that saw an increase as older builds of Android are starting to decline. Android Jelly Bean is now sitting at 42.6% versus last month where it was 44.5%. Android Ice Cream Sandwich also saw a dip from 6.4% last month to 5.9%. Also interesting is the fact that Android Gingerbread and Froyo are still hanging out with Gingerbread beating out Android Ice Cream Sandwich at 6.9% with Froyo clinging on at 0.4%.

It is unclear as to why Android 4.4 KitKat saw an uptick – perhaps more handsets were purchased that have yet to be updated to Android 5.0. It should be noted that these figures are based on official Android installs so if you’re using a ROM that’s based on a version of Android, it does not figure into Google’s calculations.
