sony-xperia-z3-z3v-review-06While other carriers are rushing to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop out for their Android devices regardless of whether they are high-end or low-end, it seems that Sony might only be interested in releasing Android 5.0 for their higher-end devices. According to a series of tweets by the Sony Xperia Twitter account, it looks like Android 5.0 could only be released for Sony’s Xperia Z handsets.

The tweets read, “Hi. We can advise that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is going to be released for the entire Xperia Z series only, we do apologise.” What this means is that if you have bought any of Sony’s lower-end handsets like the Sony Xperia E series, M series, or T series, well it looks like you’d be out of luck and if you really wanted the update, you’d probably have to find a ROM for it.

This isn’t the first time that Sony has mentioned this. Last year Sony announced that their Xperia Z series would be getting the update and for those who were hoping that Sony would change their mind later on, it looks like Sony has confirmed that they will not be doing that. It is unclear as to why Sony would neglect their other handsets but considering the reports that Sony might want to sell their smartphone business, perhaps they don’t have the resources to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to the rest of their products.
