apple-patent-lightcamWhen it comes to the world of patents, you can be sure that a company like Apple that is always perceived to be on the cutting edge of things will have amassed their fair share over the years. Of course, one will have to be ruthless in this department, which is why Apple has recently picked up a new patent that will concern a special three sensor camera that has been specially designed for thin, wireless devices such as the iPhone.

This particular trio of sensors will be able to capture a separate color component, which has been divided by a special light-splitting cube that works this way – it divides up light entering the camera into red, green and blue (or other color set of your choice, of course) wavelengths.

The whole idea behind this three sensor camera would be to obtain a better resolution and lower noise in the long run since there is no need for any kind of special filters or algorithms in order to separate the color information of a captured image on a pixel-by-pixel basis. With such technology, Apple might one day make the image quality of its mobile cameras a huge boost, with video capture scenarios looking set to benefit the most from the situation.
